KoKo Nuggz + THC Chocolate Chip Cannabis Edibles Review

KoKo Nuggz +THC edibles care a cannabis infused cereal treats. They come in eight different flavors. For this review we tried the Chocolate Chip flavor. Think Rice Krispy squares but made with Cocoa Puffs cereal and covered in green chocolate. Each jar contains 100mg of THC. There are ten pieces in each jar, each piece contains 10mg of THC.

Be aware that “Koko Nuggz” also come as just a candy treat with no THC. They ship those everywhere, but the “KoKo Nuggz +THC” can only be purchased at a licensed dispensary, you cannot order the THC version online. The candy version is great for fooling folks, as they look so close to actual cannabis flower, but they will not provide the elevated experience that the +THC version provides.

They are packaged in a glass jar with a green wrapper and screw lid. They are shaped to look like frosty cannabis flower buds, which is very cute and clever.

Product

All of the products are made with a blend of cannabis oil. They do not come in Sativa, Indica or any specific Hybrid formulation, so it’s not easy to know what type of effects to expect.
The jar is easy enough to open with a child safe lid you push down as you unscrew.

These are a gluten free treat, but they are full of sugar and very sweet. Talk about a sugar rush, these could be a shock to your system if you don’t eat a lot of sugar. They also have a lot of saturated fat. Thankfully they are low in sodium. They do contain milk so they are not vegan or vegetarian friendly unless you are lacto-ovo vegetarian (vegetarians who consume milk and egg products). They also contain artificial flavors and coloring, so these are not the product for you if are looking for an all natural cannabis edible. These are a sugary treat, like a can of soda or a candy bar.

Dosing

We are not sure how they make the nuggets a similar size or ensure each one has 10mg of THC, since they are irregularly shaped. It is not easy to accurately cut these in half to get a 5mg dose, as the irregular shape and the fact that pieces can break off when you cut them makes accuracy a challenge. If you are looking to try this at a lower dose, like 2.5mg, that would be very difficult.

As we all edibles, we highly recommend you start with half of your usual dose until you know the strength of the edible and how it will react with your body. If you don’t know your regular dose, it’s always best to start with a 2.5mg dose and see how that effects you. If you feel little or no impact, wait at least 6 hours or wait until another day to try a higher dose, then move up to 5mg. As our usual dose is 10mg, we did the best we could to estimate half of a nug for the first try.

After feeling little impact from a 5mg dose, I went up to my usual 10 mg dose, it was pretty right for this product as I felt effects at the 10mg level. I would not call these strong or potent in my experience.

Effects

I took a 10 mg dose on a half-empty stomach in the afternoon with caffeine and I could feel it within an hour. By ninety minutes I felt the full impact. Because this is not made with Sativa or Indica strains specifically, you get a middle of the road effect that could potentially be different with each batch since different batches could be made with different blends of cannabis oil.

I did not have an effect of energy and focus. It was more of a body high, with some physical relaxation but not a strong impact. The head effect was a little fuzzy, not euphoric or dreamy at all, but a classic “stoned” kind of feeling. It definitely did not leave me feeling mentally sharp or physically energized, more of a slightly relaxed and dull elevation experience.

I had a strong munchie effect from this edible. Since it is full of sugar it impacts the blood sugar in a strong way too, so be sure to have your favorite liquids and snacks around. Eating some protein with this edible would be a good idea to help balance out the sugar roller coaster.

A delicious sugary gluten-free treat infused with THC that is fun to look at and eat.

As of 2021, only available in California.

Utopia California Cannabis-Infused Macaroons Review

Utopia’s Cannabis-infused macaroons are tasty circles full of organic ingredients. They are raw, paleo-friendly, kosher friendly, gluten free, non-gmo and vegan. Only the salt is not organic, every other ingredient in these edibles is organic. They do contain tree nuts and peanuts, and are processed in a facility that processes both of those and soy products, for those with allergies.

They come in four flavors, Vanilla, Raspberry, Chocolate Chip and Peanut Butter. All of them are made with a hybrid mix of strains, so they are neither Sativa or Indica.

They can be hard to find sometimes and a recent review of their website, indicating where their edibles are sold, did not match with what the dispensaries had, which could mean that they are sold out or they may not make all of the flavors anymore, hard to tell. They come in a package of 10, each with 10mg of THC, or for medical, a package of four cookies each with 50mg ( a very high dose and only for experienced medical patients).

Taste

The macaroon flavor is naturally pretty coconut focused with a finish of the labeled flavor – Vanilla, Raspberry, Chocolate Chip or Peanut Butter. There is no artificial or strong cannabis oil taste.

The Peanut Butter flavor smells and tastes like a typical peanut butter macaroon – chewy yet a little dry. They start out mildly moist and they can go dry easily so it’s best to make sure you reseal the package tightly. The package says to store at room temperature, as refrigeration can dry them out, but I did keep them in the refrigerator after a few weeks to keep them fresh. I just don’t use them often enough to keep them out for too long. While you can get away with eating these cookies without liquid, some coffee, almond milk, or tea to go with them is a welcome addition.

The flavors are basically coconut, sweeteners (agave syrup and coconut sugar) and some natural flavor, so not a lot of complexity but a solid basic taste.

Ingredients & Packaging

I like that most of the ingredients are organiz and are ones that I use in cooking myself, not a lot of extra chemicals or preservatives.

Packaging is mercifully easy to open, with a tear strip that exposes a resealable closure similar to many child-safe pouches. There are helpful graphics on the package to help users get the bag open.

Effects

The effects seem to run down the expected hybrid middle. You don’t get the focus, uplift and energy to run around and get a lot accomplished you’d get from Sativa, nor do you get a strong body relaxation you would get with an Indica. It’s a mildly stoned mixed feeling between a head and body high.

I didn’t find them especially strong, so if you are sensitive to the effects of edibles or just starting to try them, this type of more mild cannabis edible would be a good fit. I would need to boost them with a 2.5 mg dose of another edible or a transdermal gel to get the impact I get from stronger edibles at a 10mg dose. They are pretty easy to cut in half when they are fresh, so you can try half a dose first, which is always smart when trying a new edible.

I think Utopia makes some very good cannabis edibles. I wish they made Sativa/Indica type specific versions, and I would love it if they would share which strain or strains they use. It can be hard to find edibles that are organic as well as vegan, gluten free and non-gmo, so if those characteristics are important to you, these are a good choice.

Venice Cookie Company Cannabis-Infused Hippie Cookie Review

Venice Cookie Company’s Cannabis-infused Hippie Cookie are small, thick cookies made with oatmeal, granola and trail mix. They are vegan with no animal products. They do contain wheat, peanuts and tree nuts so they are not allergen- or gluten-free. No organic ingredients indicated on the package, so all the ingredients are conventional. At 27 calories a cookie, they are a low-calorie way to elevate.

There is no indication of which strain is used to make them, or even if they use Sativa or Indica strains, so assume they are made with a hybrid mix of strains, so neither Sativa or Indica.

Hippie Cookies come in a package of 10, each with 10mg of THC. If they are around for while they can become hard and difficult to cut, so if 5mg is more your dose, you may want to cut them in half when they are fresh so you don’t struggle to cut them when they become hard. As always, start with half of a usual dose for you when trying a new edible, as some can surprise you with their strength.

Taste

The oatmeal/peanut butter cookie flavor is natural and there are dried cherries, dark chocolate chips, cashews and almonds that provide the granola/trail mix taste. The overall flavor is pretty peanut butter focused with a finish of trail mix flaors. There is no artificial taste but there is a noticeable cannabis oil taste.

They are coming out with (and discontinuing) products all of the time, so check the website to see what they currently offer
