Wana Cannabis Hot Cocoa Review

Wana Hot CocoaI cannot recommend this product and actually warn against it as potentially dangerous.

Regardless of flavor or potency, this is one of my least favorite edibles when it comes to packaging. There is no indication if the cannabis used is Indica or Sativa, never mind what strain it is or what farm it came from. Worst of all there is NO INDICATION OF DOSING!

While the packaging says that the whole thing contains 200mg of THC, it does not even give a recommendation such as “One tablespoon equals Xmg of THC” or “suggested dose is one teaspoon”. That creates a dangerous guessing game, where yours truly is expected to do math to get stoned. Fail!

What is scary is that on the nutritional facts label, it says that “1 serving = 1 package, 1 pieces per package, 200mg THC per piece”. Again, a person who does not know what they are doing could take that to mean that they should make up cocoa using the whole bag and as much milk as it takes, then drink the whole thing. Disaster! Never do that!

I understand that you can divide the total amount of THC by the weight, but few folks know how many teaspoons or tablespoons are in a gram, never mind how many are in an ounce, and who wants a product that requires you to do math just to have some hot chocolate?

Wana Hot Cocoa Back

Cannabis hot chocolate sounds fantastic, but I am loath to potentially waste half a day or more and possibly have unpleasant effects or to little effect because I have to guess at the dosing for this product.

Jeers to the makers of this product, Mountain High Products Wana brand, for not providing any of the most basic information to help people know how to use their product and what effects to expect. It’s even more frustrating when you see in the image that they make sure to include their social media contest details, but not the dosing information.

I may have to resort to dividing the contents into 10 equal piles so I could guess each pile might have 20mg in it, then I could try to divide each of the piles into two equal halfs so I could get to my preferred dose of 10mg. Oh wait, not only do I need to do math for this, I also need to buy a scale so I can weigh everything out and then I need to buy ten tiny plastic bags or containers to hold the doses once I have divided them up.

Stay away from products that don’t have clear labels, that let you easily take specific doses and easily divide doses to control your intake.

Altus Labs Sativa Cannabis THC 10mg Pills Review

Altus pills provides cannabis in pill form with no flavorings, similar to aspirin or other medicine that comes in pill form. They come in Sativa, Indica and CBD formulas. The Indica and Sativa are available in 5mg pills and they have a variety of THC/CBD blends.

After testing with half of my usual dose of 10mg – an essential with any new cannabis edible – and feeling no adverse effects, later that week I tried a full dose. I tried a 10mg Sativa pill at 3pm on a Friday afternoon after work, when I wanted some energy, focus and creativity as I prepared dinner and did some cooking for the weekend. I had a late lunch, so my stomach had food on it. I took it with some caffeine and some water, since I usually take pills with water and take some caffeine when I use edibles.

Altus 10mg pills

My initial experience was a strange mix of feeling that it was too strong and feeling slightly nauseous to then feeling that it wasn’t very strong at all. It may be down to the blends they use in their hash oil, but I felt effects different from what I usually experience in edibles. There was strong focus and some energy effect. I also experienced what felt like a testosterone boost, what I imagine “roid rage” (from the use of steroids) to be. Feelings of anger and aggression went along with the energy and focus, even though there was nothing externally impacting my emotions. I did not experience as much of the heightened senses that I usually experience with visuals, sounds, smells and tastes.

I was able to cook with a pretty clear head thanks to the focus, but the anger and aggression were unpleasant, as was the nausea. The effects started to fade about 5 hours, so it lasted what is usual length for me. Overall it did feel energetic, but with too sharp an edge for me. When I’ve tried it again since, I get the same unusual effect, feeling easy to anger and on edge. I get none of the usual pleasant positive energy I usually get from a Sativa edible. I’m not sure what causes this effect but it is most unpleasant for me.

As of 2020, Altus products are only available in Colorado and Nevada.

Cheeba Chews Indica 70mg/ 100mg Review

I’ve been struggling to find a strong edible that doesn’t taste “weedy”. My favorite budtender recommended Cheba Chews in the 70mg pack. It comes in Sativa and Indica specific strains. I bought a couple of Indica packs and was very excited to try them.

After opening the package, I saw that there were two, 35mg doses. I eyeballed my dose to be close to 50mg and ate it.

CheebaChew CO MED 70mg IndicaThe Cheba Chew tasted exactly like a Tootsie Roll with no pot taste at all! It was pleasantly surprising. The effects were starting to be noticeable after 15 minutes. In a half an hour, I was really stoned. I was active in the beginning, but pretty quickly, I had to sit down and enjoy the buzz.

Cheba Chews gave me serious munchies. So be prepared! Have some of your favorite, healthy snacks ready before you enjoy this.

The effects started to wear off at the 3 1/2 hours mark.

I would definitely buy Cheba Chews again and I highly recommend it. Next time I visit my favorite dispensary, I’ll pick up more and try some of their Sativa strain too.

Note: The original review was written in 2017. In 2019, Cheeba Chews let us know that “these  babies are 100mg medical dose now!”. That’s why the title is 70mg/100mg.

EdiPure Cannabis Sugar Drops Hard Sweets Review

Sugar Drops Hard Sweets with 10mg of THC per serving were this week’s newest edible in my local dispensary so I had to try them! These THC candies come ten in the container.

They are the largest cannabis suckers I’ve ever had. They are approximately one inch hearts. The reason why I mention their size is if you normally take a bigger dose, let’s say 40 mg, it’s going to take a long time to consume four, one inch hearts. Trust me.

These Sugar Drops slowly dissolve into a sand paper like texture. They are not smooth as they become smaller. However, they are great tasting suckers. Sweet Drops come in many flavors like lemon and green apple.

55 minutes after finishing my Sweet Drops I started to feel a slight buzz and the edibles’ calming effects started to relax me and lower my anxiety.

The heady buzz lasted for an hour and a half. The calming and relaxing benefits lasted through the night.

Sweet Drops Hard Candy are great tasting and their soothing effects are wonderful. I recommend this edible highly, especially for anxiety relief.

Venice Cookie Company Cannabis-Infused Hippie Cookie Review

Venice Cookie Company’s Cannabis-infused Hippie Cookie are small, thick cookies made with oatmeal, granola and trail mix. They are vegan with no animal products. They do contain wheat, peanuts and tree nuts so they are not allergen- or gluten-free. No organic ingredients indicated on the package, so all the ingredients are conventional. At 27 calories a cookie, they are a low-calorie way to elevate.

There is no indication of which strain is used to make them, or even if they use Sativa or Indica strains, so assume they are made with a hybrid mix of strains, so neither Sativa or Indica.

Hippie Cookies come in a package of 10, each with 10mg of THC. If they are around for while they can become hard and difficult to cut, so if 5mg is more your dose, you may want to cut them in half when they are fresh so you don’t struggle to cut them when they become hard. As always, start with half of a usual dose for you when trying a new edible, as some can surprise you with their strength.

Taste

The oatmeal/peanut butter cookie flavor is natural and there are dried cherries, dark chocolate chips, cashews and almonds that provide the granola/trail mix taste. The overall flavor is pretty peanut butter focused with a finish of trail mix flaors. There is no artificial taste but there is a noticeable cannabis oil taste.

They start out mildly moist and they can go dry easily so it’s best to make sure you reseal the package tightly. The package says to refrigerate after opening to keep them fresh. While you can get away with eating these cookies without liquid, some coffee, almond milk, or tea to go with them is a welcome addition.

Ingredients & Packaging

Packaging is mercifully easy to open, with a tear strip that exposes a resealable closure similar to many child-safe pouches. There are helpful graphics on the package to help users get the bag open.

Effects

The effects seem to run down the expected hybrid middle. You don’t get the focus, uplift and energy to run around and get a lot accomplished you’d get from Sativa, nor do you get a strong body relaxation you would get with an Indica. It’s a mildly stoned mixed feeling between a head and body high.

I didn’t find them especially strong, so if you are sensitive to the effects of edibles or just starting to try them, this type of more mild cannabis edible would be a good fit. I would need to boost one of these 10mg cookies with a 2.5 mg dose of another edible or a transdermal gel to get the impact I get from stronger edibles at a 10mg dose.

Venice Cookie Company makes some good cannabis edibles. I wish they made Sativa/Indica type specific versions, and I would love it if they would share which strain or strains they use. It is great that they offer vegan edibles.

They are coming out with (and discontinuing) products all of the time, so check the website to see what they currently offer
