Kiva Lost Farms Strain-Specific Live Resin Cannabis Gummies & Chews Review

Kiva’s line of Lost Farms edibles are strain specific, live resin cannabis gummies. They combine great taste with specific effects and so are one of our favorites.

The line comes in four flavors of gummies and three flavors of chews, each featuring a specific strain of cannabis. For experienced cannabis users who are familiar with specific strains, these are a welcome change to the usual edibles that are often made with a variety of strains mixed together, often not even labeled as one of a group such as Sativa, Indica or Hybrid.

Each gummy has 10mg of THC and 0mg of CBD per serving, for a total of 100mg THC and 0mg of CBD per package. These gummies are not just infused with the usual distilled THC but are formulated with a specific strain like Blue Dream or Clementine to help create more specific effects.

Kiva Lost Farm Family of Cannabis Infused Gummies made with live resin

My local dispensary charges $22 for a package, making it $2.20 for each 10mg serving of THC, close to the same price point as the Kiva Camino gummies or the Kiva 100mg cannabis Chocolate bars.

These gummies do not contain gelatin, so they are vegetarian and vegan friendly. They do contain potato starch but it’s not a large percentage of the ingredients. The gummies are not individually wrapped and the packages are pretty easily resealable.

Dosing & Flavor

The smell from the tube or bag is primarily a strong fruit smell. Unlike the Camino gummies which are smooth and see-through, these have a more of a fruit chew appearance and a sugar-covered texture. They easy to bite through and melt about the same as Camino gummies.

The gummy flavors are Raspberry, Strawberry Lemonade, Juicy Peach and Citrus Spritz. Raspberry is made with the strain Blue Dream for the Sativa strain and Wedding Cake for the Indica strain. Strawberry Lemonade is made with Super Lemon Haze for the Sativa and Strawberry Bananaz for the Indica. Juicy Peach is made with the Sativa-dominant hybrid strain Mimosa. Unfortunately, as of March 2021, the Citrus Spritz flavor made with the strain Clementine is no longer available.

The chews come in Blueberry made with hybrid strain Blue Dream, Key Lime made with the Sativa-dominant hybrid strain Lemon Meringue and Watermelon made with the Indica-dominant strains Wedding Cake x Watermelon Zkittlez.

The flavors are somewhat sugar-forward since the outside of the gummies are coated with a sugary substance. The chews come without the outer coating and a bit more translucent. They all do have fruit flavors but they seem to border right on the line between solid natural flavor and more candy-type flavors. Mostly it is a mild citrus and fruit flavor that doesn’t have any bad aftertaste or strong THC flavor. A mild sour note gives these that suggestion of sourness and the fruit flavors suggest a flavor but you wouldn’t think you are biting into a real berry or slice of watermelon, they are more candy-flavors, although they do use real fruit powders as part of flavoring.

As we always recommend with new edibles, try half of your usual dose before trying a full dose as you never know how strong something will effect you. The chews and gummies are easy to bite in half to give a 5mg dose of THC. Since I am experienced with edibles and my usual dose is 10mg of THC, I began with half of one piece, with 5mg THC. After having only light effects for that trial run, I then moved closer to my usual dose on another day, taking one whole gummy for a total dose of 10mg THC. I sometimes use two and a one quarter pieces for a 12.5mg dose of THC when I want a stronger effect, if I have recently eaten or if I’ve taken CBD, which can tamp down the effects for me.

Effects

The effects I experienced were closely aligned with the effects I’ve enjoyed when smoking these strains, only adjusted to be edible effects. For the hybrids, a lovely elevated and relaxed feeling, while still being alert and energetic. More alertness and energy with the Sativa-dominant strains like Super Lemon Haze, and more relaxing and chill impacts from the Indica-dominent strains like Wedding Cake. I love the Sativa and hybrids for interacting with nature whether it’s gardening, “forest bathing” or a walk on the beach. As someone who enjoys photography, those are great for staying alert to great images without feeling over-hyped and at the same time the mild relaxation leaves you open to possibility. Similar impacts with the Blue Dream, a positive effect of a dreamy, elevated mind along with an Indica kind of body relaxation that isn’t too strong that you just want to sit down. The Indicas I find very relaxing as I’m sensitive to the effects of Indica strains.

Enjoyable flavor profiles and strain-specific effects are exactly what I look for when I want to elevate and Kiva’s Lost Farm cannabis edibles do a great job on both counts.

Manzanita Madrone The Fizz Cannabis Infused Beverages Review

Manzanita Madrone makes three flavors of their cannabis infused beverage, Ginger Root, Natural Cola and Lemon-Lime. Ginger and Cola flavor cost $5 and have 10mg of THC while Lemon-Lime has 5mg THC and 5mg CBD in the bottle and is $4.

Three bottles on a ledge. Each on a different kind of a product called The Fizz, a cannabis infused beverage. Ginger Root, Lemon-Lime and Natural Cola flavor

Since the other cannabis infused drinkable beverages I have tried have had relaxing, Indica-type effects, I expected the same from The Fizz.

Taste & Effects: Lemon Lime

Since it has half of my usual dose of 10mg, I started by trying the Lemon Lime. If you are expecting this to taste anything like Sprite or that kind of soft drink, you’ll be disappointed. This is not even a soft drink but a self-described “Premium Low-Dose All-Natural Craft Beverage”. This flavor uses real lemon and lime juice, sugar and honey, natural flavors and along with THC cannabis oil, Quijalla Bark extract.

When you look up Quijalla Bark extract to know what it is, guess what? There is no such thing to be found online as Quijalla, only Quillaja Bark extract. So it’s likely somebody messed up the spelling on the labeling. That is an important detail to me. If they can’t get the label right, what else are they not getting right with this liquid I’m putting in my body?

Anyway, Quillaja Bark (also known as Quillaia, but never Quijalla), is commonly used in root beer and cream soda. So yes, this lemon-line soda has a root beer-like taste from the Quillaja, a taste which I found odd. I sometimes have squeezed a lemon or lime or even put lemonade into cola, but I’ve never done that with root beer. I find it an odd taste combination and not one I like very much.

According to the manufacturer’s website “Quillaja bark is what allows us to emulsify our premium THC naturally instead of using industry standard chemicals such as sodium benzoate.”. So at least they know how to spell it on the website if not on the bottle.

The product does have a nice natural citrus soda flavor with no strong cannabis flavor or any artificial tastes, so if you like lemon-lime in your root beer, it could work for you.

As for effects, with only 5mg of THC I didn’t expect to feel much in the way of effects and that was pretty much what happened.

Taste & Effects: Ginger Root

Ginger Root tasted like the Lemon Lime but with Ginger added. It does have a light ginger beer/ale taste at first that finishes on a more citrus – like flavor along with the Quilaja Bark flavor that is in the Lemon Lime. The ingredient list is the same as Lemon Lime except there is fresh ginger root, citric acid instead of lemon juice and pineapple juice. I like strong ginger beer drinks an drink them all the time, so that is why this would taste to me like a lighter ginger flavor. If you’re used to regular ginger all, this is on par with that, plus the citrus taste. I found the cannabis oil taste minimal, barely noticeable.

The effect was stronger as it contains 10mg of THC. I definitely felt the effects within an hour (PSA: always wait two hours to judge how strong the effects are). It was a hybrid effect for me, a stoned feeling and somewhat spacey head with a relaxed body effect. It definitely felt more of a stress relief effect than an energetic effect, both physically and mentally. Perfect for whenever you want to unwind and relax.

Taste & Effects: Cola

THe Fizz Cola cannabis-infused beverage

This is a natural flavor for this product line, as I mentioned earlier I regularly put lemon or lime in my cola, so the cola plus citrus flavor is familiar and one I enjoy. For some reason the flavor didn’t work for me. It seemed to compete with the cola flavor instead of enhance it.

Like the Ginger Root, this produced a hybrid effect for me, a stoned feeling and somewhat spacey head with a relaxed body effect, more of a stress relief effect physically and mentally. Best for times when you want to relax and space out, not when you are looking for a creative boost or uplift.

Overall this is a good edible / drinkable if you like the citrus-y taste of Quillaja Bark and are looking for Indica-dominant effects.

Cosmic View Moon Lollie Cannabis Infused Hard Candy Review

Cosmic View Moon Lollie Cannabis Infused hard candy line of edibles come in different flavor combinations. These are some of the most interesting flavor combinations in edibles that we’ve tried. They are “hand made in San Rafael, California with 100% pure holistic ingredients”.

In their Fall 2023 Limited Edition, 10 mg of Mango flower rosin meets toasted black sesame, locally harvested makrut (aka kaffir) lime and maldon sea salt. “Hand roasted black sesame is blended with locally foraged markrut lime leaf and North Country Farms’ Southfork Mango to create the perfect sweet, savory and hint of salty treat with all of your favorite flavors.”

North Country Farm’s South Fork Mango is a legacy Trinity County varietal crossed with a late 90’s Mango cut, creating a local favorite that thrives in Trinity’s unique micro-climates. Indica-dominant with floral notes and a soothing body high.

The package is a plastic pouch that can be difficult to open if you have limited hand strength or flexibility, it requires scissors and cannot be closed once opened, as this is a single use edible. The lollipop is well wrapped in what appeared to be a waxed type of candy paper that was fairly easy to unwrap.

Dosing & Flavor

Cosmic View Moon lollies are made with evaporated cane juice, fair trade tapioca syrup, non-GMO coconut oil, Mango flower rosin, non-GMO sunflower lecithin, black sesame seeds, makrut lime leaf, flaky sea salt, lemon verbena, passionflower, cream of tartar, and fair trade tapioca starch. Of the edibles we’ve tried, this edible provides some of the most unique and sophisticated flavor profiles.

They are hard candy type lollipops, so not easy to bite through but they do eventually melt in the mouth. They don’t contain gelatin or other animal products, so it seems they are vegan friendly which is always a cruelty free plus.

They are gluten free, and dairy free, but they do contain coconut oil so not totally nut free. They are hard so it is not a good idea to try cutting them in half.

As we always recommend with new edibles, try half of your usual dose before trying a full dose as you never know how strong something will effect you. As everyone is different, it’s important to try a partial dose first to see how you react to new edibles. Not easy with such a hard candy. If you are new to these, just stop after half the candy is gone, then wait to see what the impact is for you.

Since I am experienced with edibles and my usual dose is 10mg of THC, I began with half of one piece, with 5mg THC. After having only light effects for that trial run, I then moved closer to my usual dose on another day, taking one whole lollipop for a total dose of 10mg THC which was fine.

Effects

The effects were along the lines of what you’d expect from a dominant Indica strain with a relaxing and soothing body effect. Not too strong but noticeable for someone who is sensitive to the impacts of Indica flower.
