Plus Products Cannabis Infused Gummies

by Alton

Plus Products makes a Sativa cannabis-infused gummy that has 5mg of THC per gummy. They come in packages of twenty 5mg servings.

plus-sativa-sour-watermelon-open.jpg

I always prefer cannabis edibles that indicate Sativa, Indica, or a hybrid, so I like that Plus has products labeled Sativa and Indica. I like it even better when edibles provide the name of the strain used to make the THC oil, but unfortunately there is no indication of what strain is used for these gummies. The website does say “Each low-calorie gummy is made from scratch with natural, kosher ingredients and infused with carefully sourced top shelf flower.” but doesn’t give any indication which strain of flower.

Besides the Sativa Sour Watermelon flavor reviewed here, the company uses a similar formula for their Blackberry & Lemon Indica gummies that have a 9:1 THC to CBD ration, and their Pineapple & Coconut CBD gummies. In 2018, Plus did make three limited edition flavors – Rose & Vanilla with a 2:1 THC to CBD ratio, Sour Blueberry and a Rainbow Sorbet, each labeled as Hybrid with no strain indication.

Packaging is a Big Fail

There is a lot not to like about how this product is packaged. Shame on their product packaging designer for thinking that white text on a pale pink background is legible. In low light, for folks with impaired vision or for those that are color blind, this packaging is very difficult to read. Not only is it difficult to read, it has a complicated child safety mechanism. When you can’t figure out the packaging and the instructions are nearly impossible to read, this is a product that starts out being very frustrating before it is even open, which does not create a good start to the experience.

As you tear off the top of the package, you have to be careful of the ziploc slider mechanism hidden inside the part you tear off. It is very hard to see whether you are tearing off the zipper whole mechanism or just the top of the bag. Once the top is off and if you have managed not to destroy the “zipper”, it is very unclear what happens next. If it didn’t require a flood light to read the text on the package, than it might be easier to figure out, but it isn’t. You are supposed to align the slider with a tiny notch in the closure and then push down on the slider. Unfortunately they don’t give you any hint which part of the slider is supposed to be aligned with the notch, so you have to keep trying the slider in different positions to try to make it work. By this point even a reasonable person would be ready to take a knife and destroy the packaging in frustration or just dump the whole thing in the garbage.

Once you have found the magic coordinates to make the slider work, it creates an opening about 75% of the width of the tin inside, making it difficult to get the tin inside out of the packaging. If you try to make the opening wider, the slider pulls off of the mechanism, ruining the child proof packaging. Trying to force the slider back onto the mechanism is difficult and then once you do, the opening mechanism doesn’t work. Only by prying open the bag can you access the tin with the gummies inside.

This product officially wins my award for the worst packaging of any edible I have tried. The manufacturer who produces this packaging and Plus Products should both reexamine the use of such packaging. You create a frustrating customer experience that makes a person never want to buy your product again – not a good recipe for sustainability.

Taste

The gummies are very soft tiny little squares, about one quarter inch square. No wonder they say they are low calorie, they are so tiny they can’t hold a lot of calories. They are not sticky and look to be covered in a sugar coating.

The flavor – in this case labeled as Sour Watermelon – was very subtle. I barely tasted any sour watermelon taste, it was more like a generic citric acid fruit taste plus a thc taste.A look at the ingredients may have the answer why. The first ingredient is Beef Gelatin, which makes me think “yuck”. I’m not a vegan but I do try to avoid animal products, especially those from cow hoofs. The other ingredients are sugar, salt, citric acid, tartaric acid, natural flavors and colors. Not exactly an ingredient list to get my taste buds excited. There was a definite THC aftertaste once the taste of salty acid and beef hooves fades.

Strength

I usually prefer a Sativa edible to give me some uplift, energy and focus to get things done or enjoy creative pursuits. I first tried one of the 5mg pieces and felt nothing for hours. I then tried two to bring me to my normal does of 10mg. I found them slow to start and while they are slightly uplifting, I got very little energy from them. That was about the extent of the effect. It was not at all what I usually expect to get out of 10mg of THC from a Sativa strain. I felt slightly stoned but I did not feel uplifted or creative or energetic. After a couple of hours even the slight effects were gone.

This is closest I have come, when using my usual 10mg dose of THC in edibles, to feeling like I took nothing at all. Except for a slight initial effect, the effects were otherwise non-existent. I have tried some mild edibles but this may be the most mild.

PLus gummies rainbow

I did find that they are a good strength to boost the effects when I’ve had 10mg and I want a stronger effect. About two hours after taking 10mg of another edible, if I want a stronger effecting I find that adding one of the 5mg Plus pieces gave a nice boost.

Claims

The company website includes the claim “Our products act faster and taste better because our research and manufacturing teams have spent the time to develop industry leading patent pending processes.” They give no explanation as to what those processes are or how much faster they claim to work. Without any supporting information, these come off as marketing claims that sound false even if they are true.

In what we think is a hilarious mistake, the “Press and Investor” website press page shows what looks like the manufacturing floor, with people in robes working on pans of product and boxes in a bleak warehouse. Unfortunately most of them are not wearing face masks and at least half of them have their hair nets on wrong, not covering all of their hair. A food inspector would likely shut the place down or give a warning at a minimum.

With the frustrating packaging, the not great taste and the very mild effects, this is an edible I cannot recommend without reservation. While it is okay as a booster edible, there are much better choices out there both for gummies and other edibles.

Highly Edible Cannabis Watermelon Pucks with NXT Review

By Ruth

The first time I tried Highly Edible Watermelon Pucks was on a wonderful day hanging with a dear friend at an amazing spa. Ideal! It was a great mood-lifting edible and I knew right away I would have to enjoy them again and that I had to take notes for a review.

highly-edible-watermelon-pucks.jpgThese gummies come in a little more than 10 mg of THC per piece and there are ten pieces per container. The pucks are bigger than your average gummies. The candy piece is like if two and a half gummy bears were melted together and put into a one inch disc mold. Watermelon Pucks taste good, not too sour, not too medicinal.

After eating the cannabis candy it took approximately 45 minutes for effects to set in. Highly Edible Watermelon Pucks have a steady, energetic high. My mood definitely felt lighter, happier. I was able to communicate with angst ridden teenagers with success while at the same time was still completely mobile and able to finish the tasks I had planned for the day.

I did get the munchies. So be warned. Have healthy food and drinks available!

The high lasted a solid 2 1/2 hours and left me feeling great with energy and not lethargic.

I will definitely be using Highly Edible Watermelon Pucks again. They are probably my favorite gummy on the market. The buzz and mood uplift are amazing. Highly recommended. Highly.

This edible was recommended to me by a good friend and I was happy to try them on a visit to Colorado. I thought they tasted great and for me the effect was an uplifting, happy one. I rarely get the giggles from being high, but I had a touch of them on these pucks!

These edibles claim to have faster absorption because of what the label refers to as NXT –  “Feel it faster with NXT extraction technology”. Nowhere on the bottle does it detail what that technolgy is or how it works. Also a search of the website brought up no results for NXT. On a dispensary website I found this – “…with their new Nano eXtraction Technology (NXT), these gummies pack a powerful punch. The NXT system lets you feel it faster by allowing tiny THC molecules to absorb sublingually. You feel it faster and longer as your stomach metabolizes the THC buried within the gummy.” If you are interested in more there is some explanation from a company that makes the “nano extractor” here.

Highly Edible PucksWatermelon is just one of the flavors, which include peach, cherry, assorted fruity and golden strawberry. They are vegan and gluten free. As with other of this brands products, there is no mention of which type of cannabis (Indica, Hybrid, Sativa) or which strain (Blue Dream, Kush, etc.) to guide consumers on what effects to expect. From the effects we experienced we are guessing it is a Sativa dominant hybrid.

These gummies come from the folks at Cannapunch, who also make CannaPunch drinks and Dutch Girl Stroopwafels (our review here).

Valhalla Cannabis Infused Gummies- Sour Watermelon Indica Review

Valhalla indica Watermelon GummiesValhalla Cannabis Infused Sour Watermelon gummies are some of the best out there. They come in a package of 10 pieces with each piece containing 10 mg of THC and .4 mg of CBD. These Indica strain gummies taste great, with minimal medicinal taste.

After 40 minutes I started feeling the tingly sensation of an early high. I was still running around cleaning the house. After and hour and 15 minutes, I was sitting back enjoying a calm, full body high. That’s where I stayed for about an hour and 45 minutes more. It was lovely. I also noted that my hands that suffer arthritis- like symptoms were pain free.

Be warned, this edible creates serious munchies. Have a lot of healthy snacks available!

These are great gummies. I like that they don’t have a extra coat of sugar. They’re powerful! Valhalla cannabis infused gummies are highly recommended!

Space Gem Sour & Sweet Cannabis Spacedrops Review

Space Gems are gumdrop-style candies made in Humboldt County, California with ice water hash. The box contains 6 candies that each contain 10mg of THC, a total of 60mg for the box. They are vegan, which is still hard to find in gummy-style or gum drop edibles, a big plus for everyone who wants to reduce their impact on animals.

They do not come in Indica or Sativa styles, but they come in Sweet or Sour “Spacedrops”. They are clearly marked with a suggested 10mg serving size of one “drop”, something we always appreciate in our edibles.

Texture and Taste

SPace Gem Sweet Inside

They do look like little sparkling gems in the box. They have a gummy-like taste and a gumdrop-like texture, with sugar covering a squishy square. The texture is exactly what you would expect with a gum drop. Both taste quite good, the Sour flavor brings an extra sour and the Sweet is not too cloying with a pleasant sweetness.

Effects

Since they are made from hash we assumed there would be a hash-like effect of a heavy head, with a strong pull to the couch and to inaction. I was surprised that the effect seemed pretty well balanced between sativa and indica effects, with the focus and some energy while still relaxed. I never felt “over revved up” or that over-caffeinated feeling you can get with strong sativa edibles. I definitely experienced the heightened senses, including the munchies.

A very good tasting handmade edible, mostly relaxing effects with some focus and a little energy. Enjoy a cruelty-free edible with no animal products!

Wana Watermelon Cannabis Gummies Review

Post by Ruth

One of the first edibles I tried years ago were cannabis gummies. They were familiar sounding and I didn’t really know what else to try.

Wana Gummies WatermelonThat was a while ago. Here I am today reviewing Wana Watermelon Gummies. It feels like old times. They come in a container of 10 pieces (20 mg each). One gummy works out to cost $2.00. This edible is not strain specific.

I do not like the taste of these gummies. But, I’ve had Wana’s mixed flavor gummies and the watermelon ones are really the best. It tastes very medicinal. Then it gets bitter.

Although I took a little more than my usual dose, the high was not too strong. It took about 45 minutes to have any noticeable effects. This was more “up” like a sativa buzz. I was able to accomplish several tasks. Focusing was very easy. The high lasted 3 hours and I didn’t have the munchies.

The edibles industry is growing with all types of amazing products. Wana Gummies are a safe bet, but I urge you to talk with your favorite budtender and ask for their recommendations and read our reviews for honest feedback.

Valhalla Medical Cannabis Sativa Gummies Review

by Alton

My go-to edible for daytime use is the Valhalla Sour Watermelon Sativa gummies. They hit all of the important points for him – flexible potency, great taste and consistent effects.

Tasty, Portable, Economical and Effective

One of the first and most important elements of any edible is taste. While you may be willing to deal with a not-great taste for specific effects, it is always great when the edible is delicious. Being a big fan of Jolly Roger-type flavors, I love the Sour Watermelon flavor that Valhalla uses. I can still taste the cannabis a little bit and the flavoring works in harmony with that taste, not trying to cover it up or clashing with it as some edibles can.

When I first used them, they came six to a plastic pouch that was inside a cardboard box. Now they come 10 to a resealable bag that make them easily portable, as you see in these images. That makes for 100mg of THC total per pouch. At the current price (2017) of US$16, that means a per mg price of 16 cents or $1.60 per gummy.

Since they are Indica and Sativa and CBD specific, the Valhalla gummies let you find the right ratio of each through experimentation. I have found that if I take them on a relatively empty stomach and take it with some food with fat in it as well as having caffeine, I get a perfectly strong effect for at least 4-5 hours. When I feel the effects fading I can boost it with another half of a gummy as they are easy to cut or bite through.

This is my standard edible for those days when I want an energetic effect to help me get things done around the house, spark creativity or help focus on a task. These gummies deliver that consistently and with great taste!
