Heavy Hitters Sativa, Indica and Hybrid Cannabis Gummies Review

Heavy Hitters line of edibles are cannabis gummies that come in nine different flavor and strain combinations. The line comes in nine flavors of gummies, each featuring a specific type of cannabis – Sativa, Indica or Hybrid.

Each gummy has 20mg of THC and 0mg of CBD per serving, for a total of 100mg THC and 0mg of CBD per package.

These gummies contain gelatin, so they are not vegan friendly. They do contain natural coloring and flavoring, without artificial ingredients. They are gluten free, dairy free, and nut free. The gummies are not individually wrapped and need to be cut in half for a 10mg dose or in quarters for a 5mg dose. They are scored across the gummy so they do give a guide for easily cutting them in half.

Dosing & Flavor

The smell from the bag is primarily a strong fruit smell. Unlike the Kiva Camino gummies which are smooth and see-through, these have a more of a fruit chew appearance and a sugar-covered texture. They are easy to bite through and melt in the mouth in the same way as most gummies.

The gummy flavors are Moondrop Grape, Pink Grapefruit, Blueberry Dream, Sour Apple Lemonade Haze, Tangerine Dream, Strawberry Storm, Pineapple Punch, and Watermelon Spark. For our review we tried the Sour Apple Sativa and the Pineapple Punch.

Sour Apple Heavy Hitters THC gummy edible 20mg piece

The flavors are somewhat sugar-forward since the outside of the gummies are coated with a sugary substance. They all do have fruit flavors but they seem to border right on the line between solid natural flavors and more candy-type flavors. For the sour apple, mostly it is a nicely sour citrus and fruit flavor, without any bad aftertaste or strong THC flavor. For the Pineapple Punch, a mild sour note combines with a pineapple candy flavor. The citric acid gives these a suggestion of sourness and the fruit flavors suggest a flavor. Be clear, you wouldn’t think you are biting into a real apple or berry or slice of watermelon, they are more candy-flavors, although they do use natural flavoring.

As we always recommend with new edibles, try half of your usual dose before trying a full dose as you never know how strong something will effect you. The gummies are easy to cut or bite in half to give a 10mg dose of THC, then to split again for a 5mg dose. Especially with something called “Heavy Hitters”, it’s important to try a partial dose first to see how you react.

Since I am experienced with edibles and my usual dose is 10mg of THC, I began with half of a half of one piece, with 5mg THC. After having only light effects for that trial run, I then moved closer to my usual dose on another day, taking one whole gummy for a total dose of 10mg THC. I sometimes use one and a one eighth pieces for a 12.5mg dose of THC when I want a stronger effect, or if I have recently eaten or if I’ve taken CBD, which can tamp down the effects.

Effects

The effects I experienced were closely aligned with the effects I’ve enjoyed with similar terpene- specific gummies. For the hybrids, a lovely elevated and relaxed feeling, while still being alert and energetic. More alertness and energy with the Sativa-dominant strains, and more relaxing and chill impacts from the Indica-dominant strains. I love the Sativa and hybrids for interacting with nature whether it’s gardening, “forest bathing” or a walk on the beach. As someone who enjoys photography, those are great for staying alert to great images without feeling over-hyped and at the same time the mild relaxation leaves you open to possibility. Similar impacts with the hybrids, a positive effect of an elevated mind along with an Indica kind of body relaxation that isn’t too strong that you just want to sit down. The Indicas I find very relaxing as I’m sensitive to the effects of Indica strains.

Enjoyable flavor profiles and specific effects are exactly what I look for when I want to elevate and Heavy Hitters cannabis edibles do a great job on both counts.

Note: Terpenes are the aromatic oils that give your favorite cannabis varieties distinctive flavors like citrus, berry, mint, and pine. These oils, secreted in the flower’s sticky resin glands, appear in many other herbs, fruits, and plants. They play a significant role in the therapeutic and medicinal use of cannabis strains by creating subtle differences in effects across various types. Want some more inside knowledge about terpenes? KoKo Nuggz + THC Chocolate Chip Cannabis Edibles Review

KoKo Nuggz +THC edibles care a cannabis infused cereal treats. They come in eight different flavors. For this review we tried the Chocolate Chip flavor. Think Rice Krispy squares but made with Cocoa Puffs cereal and covered in green chocolate. Each jar contains 100mg of THC. There are ten pieces in each jar, each piece contains 10mg of THC.

Be aware that “Koko Nuggz” also come as just a candy treat with no THC. They ship those everywhere, but the “KoKo Nuggz +THC” can only be purchased at a licensed dispensary, you cannot order the THC version online. The candy version is great for fooling folks, as they look so close to actual cannabis flower, but they will not provide the elevated experience that the +THC version provides.

They are packaged in a glass jar with a green wrapper and screw lid. They are shaped to look like frosty cannabis flower buds, which is very cute and clever.

Product

All of the products are made with a blend of cannabis oil. They do not come in Sativa, Indica or any specific Hybrid formulation, so it’s not easy to know what type of effects to expect.
The jar is easy enough to open with a child safe lid you push down as you unscrew.

These are a gluten free treat, but they are full of sugar and very sweet. Talk about a sugar rush, these could be a shock to your system if you don’t eat a lot of sugar. They also have a lot of saturated fat. Thankfully they are low in sodium. They do contain milk so they are not vegan or vegetarian friendly unless you are lacto-ovo vegetarian (vegetarians who consume milk and egg products). They also contain artificial flavors and coloring, so these are not the product for you if are looking for an all natural cannabis edible. These are a sugary treat, like a can of soda or a candy bar.

Dosing

We are not sure how they make the nuggets a similar size or ensure each one has 10mg of THC, since they are irregularly shaped. It is not easy to accurately cut these in half to get a 5mg dose, as the irregular shape and the fact that pieces can break off when you cut them makes accuracy a challenge. If you are looking to try this at a lower dose, like 2.5mg, that would be very difficult.

As we all edibles, we highly recommend you start with half of your usual dose until you know the strength of the edible and how it will react with your body. If you don’t know your regular dose, it’s always best to start with a 2.5mg dose and see how that effects you. If you feel little or no impact, wait at least 6 hours or wait until another day to try a higher dose, then move up to 5mg. As our usual dose is 10mg, we did the best we could to estimate half of a nug for the first try.

kokonuggz thc cannabis infused chocolate chip cocoa covered cereal treats

After feeling little impact from a 5mg dose, I went up to my usual 10 mg dose, it was pretty right for this product as I felt effects at the 10mg level. I would not call these strong or potent in my experience.

Effects

I took a 10 mg dose on a half-empty stomach in the afternoon with caffeine and I could feel it within an hour. By ninety minutes I felt the full impact. Because this is not made with Sativa or Indica strains specifically, you get a middle of the road effect that could potentially be different with each batch since different batches could be made with different blends of cannabis oil.

I did not have an effect of energy and focus. It was more of a body high, with some physical relaxation but not a strong impact. The head effect was a little fuzzy, not euphoric or dreamy at all, but a classic “stoned” kind of feeling. It definitely did not leave me feeling mentally sharp or physically energized, more of a slightly relaxed and dull elevation experience.

I had a strong munchie effect from this edible. Since it is full of sugar it impacts the blood sugar in a strong way too, so be sure to have your favorite liquids and snacks around. Eating some protein with this edible would be a good idea to help balance out the sugar roller coaster.

A delicious sugary gluten-free treat infused with THC that is fun to look at and eat.

As of 2021, only available in California.

Kiva Lost Farms Strain-Specific Live Resin Cannabis Gummies & Chews Review

Kiva’s line of Lost Farms edibles are strain specific, live resin cannabis gummies. The line comes in four flavors of gummies and three flavors of “chews”, each featuring a specific strain of cannabis. For experienced cannabis users who are familiar with specific strains, these are a welcome change to the usual edibles that are often made with a variety of strains mixed together, often not even labeled as one of a group such as Sativa, Indica or Hybrid.

Each gummy has 10mg of THC and 0mg of CBD per serving, for a total of 100mg THC and 0mg of CBD per package. These gummies are not just infused with the usual distilled THC but are formulated with a specific strain like Blue Dream or Clementine to help create more specific effects.

Kiva Lost Farm Family of Cannabis Infused Gummies made with live resin

My local dispensary charges $22 for a package, making it $2.20 for each 10mg serving of THC, close to the same price point as the Kiva Camino gummies or the Kiva 100mg cannabis Chocolate bars.

These gummies do not contain gelatin, so they are vegetarian and vegan friendly. They do contain potato starch but it’s not a large percentage of the ingredients. The gummies are not individually wrapped and the packages are pretty easily resealable.

Dosing & Flavor

The smell from the tube or bag is primarily a strong fruit smell. Unlike the Camino gummies which are smooth and see-through, these have a more of a fruit chew appearance and a sugar-covered texture. They easy to bite through and melt about the same as Camino gummies.

The gummy flavors are Raspberry, Strawberry Lemonade, Juicy Peach and Citrus Spritz. Raspberry is made with the strain Blue Dream for the Sativa strain and Wedding Cake for the Indica strain. Strawberry Lemonade is made with Super Lemon Haze for the Sativa and Strawberry Bananaz for the Indica. Juicy Peach is made with the Sativa-dominant hybrid strain Mimosa. Unfortunately, as of March 2021, the Citrus Spritz flavor made with the strain Clementine is no longer available.

The chews come in Blueberry made with hybrid strain Blue Dream, Key Lime made with the Sativa-dominant hybrid strain Lemon Meringue and Watermelon made with the Indica-dominant strains Wedding Cake x Watermelon Zkittlez.

The flavors are somewhat sugar-forward since the outside of the gummies are coated with a sugary substance. The chews come without the outer coating and a bit more translucent. They all do have fruit flavors but they seem to border right on the line between solid natural flavor and more candy-type flavors. Mostly it is a mild citrus and fruit flavor that doesn’t have any bad aftertaste or strong THC flavor. A mild sour note gives these that suggestion of sourness and the fruit flavors suggest a flavor but you wouldn’t think you are biting into a real berry or slice of watermelon, they are more candy-flavors, although they do use real fruit powders as part of flavoring.

As we always recommend with new edibles, try half of your usual dose before trying a full dose as you never know how strong something will effect you. The chews and gummies are easy to bite in half to give a 5mg dose of THC. Since I am experienced with edibles and my usual dose is 10mg of THC, I began with half of one piece, with 5mg THC. After having only light effects for that trial run, I then moved closer to my usual dose on another day, taking one whole gummy for a total dose of 10mg THC. I sometimes use two and a one quarter pieces for a 12.5mg dose of THC when I want a stronger effect, if I have recently eaten or if I’ve taken CBD, which can tamp down the effects for me.

Effects

The effects I experienced were closely aligned with the effects I’ve enjoyed when smoking these strains, only adjusted to be edible effects. For the hybrids, a lovely elevated and relaxed feeling, while still being alert and energetic. More alertness and energy with the Sativa-dominant strains like Super Lemon Haze, and more relaxing and chill impacts from the Indica-dominent strains like Wedding Cake. I love the Sativa and hybrids for interacting with nature whether it’s gardening, “forest bathing” or a walk on the beach. As someone who enjoys photography, those are great for staying alert to great images without feeling over-hyped and at the same time the mild relaxation leaves you open to possibility. Similar impacts with the Blue Dream, a positive effect of a dreamy, elevated mind along with an Indica kind of body relaxation that isn’t too strong that you just want to sit down. The Indicas I find very relaxing as I’m sensitive to the effects of Indica strains.

7Sacred Cannabis Infused Caramels Review

7Sacred makes farm-to-table cannabis-infused caramels, incorporating local ingredients from Colorado. 7Sacred is based in Telluride, Colorado and was founded by Mike Alagna, who was a professional chef for over 30 years. Besides caramels, 7Sacred also makes truffles and fruit chews using fruit from Colorado.

The caramels are made with cannabis oil sourced from organic cultivators. They make Indica, Sativa, and Hybrid formulas with different flavors including Salted Honey, Apple Butter and Peach and Black Cherry. Not only are they type-specific (Indica/Sativa/Hybrid), which I love, they also use organic ingredients whenever possible, a big plus.

I tested a Sativa batch of the High Desert Salted Honey, made with Colorado honey. The Indica, Hybrid and Sativa caramels all have 10mg of THC in each caramel, with the bag holding 10 pieces for a total of 100mg per bag.

Salted Honey Sativa 7 Sacred Cannabis Infused Caramels

They also make a 20mg small package with 2 pieces of caramel and they make truffles as well. These THC caramels are only available in Colorado as of 2021.

7Sacred Caramels are made with quality ingredients and they taste great. There is only the slightest cannabis oil taste to these edibles, but it’s barely noticeable. The High Desert Salted Honey flavor reminds me of a cross between saltwater taffy and caramels, with a sweet buttery yet salty taste. There is no strong cannabis aftertaste like you get with some edibles. The Salted Honey caramel is made with condensed milk and butter, so it is not suitable for vegans.

Each carame is individually packaged, so they are easy to throw into a backpack or cooler. Like most caramels, they can get sticky and soft when warm, so keep them away from heat to avoid an unfortunate melting. As with most edibles, I keep these in the refridgerator to help preserve the potency and flavor. I found that they are soft enough soon after coming out of the fridge, and I could lea the out for about 10 mins to get a softer texture.

The batch I tried had 9.52mg of THC per piece (I appreciate that 7Sacred and Colorado include the actual dose). I always try half of my usual dose the first time I use an edible, so in this case since my usual dose is 10mg or a little more, I brought a caramel to room temperature and it was fairly easy to cut it up with a sharp knife. If your usual dose is 5mg, you can cut one into four pieces without too much trouble to give you a tasting does of 2.5mg.

After two hours of taking a half dose I did not feel much. Another day I took a whole caramel and while I did notice some effect it wasn’t as strong as I would like. I took them as usual with coffee and a small sized breakfast that included some fat to help the THC metabolize.

What effects we experience from edibles can vary with what we have eaten, other chemicals in our systems, etc. , so be aware of the food in your system when taking edibles.

After trying a whole caramel two more times and feeling noticeable but not strong effects, I cut a caramel into four pieces so I could try one and one quarter for a does around 12mg of THC. That dose worked best for me with these edibles.

I did not feel a strong energetic effect from this Sativa edible, but did have sharp mental focus and some energy. I did not find it dreamy, with no more of a spacey head than other sativa edibles. I did find it uplifting and with a but of an caffeine type energy buzz, so for me this is something I would rather use in the afternoon or in the morning, not in the evening. Well maybe if I was going out for the night, wanted to be uplifted and didn’t have to drive.

I appreciate these being clearly Sativa and providing the type of effects I’d generally expect from a Sativa.

Overall an excellent cannabis edible choice that uses local Colorado ingredients, organic cannabis and comes in tasty flavors.

Made in Colorado and only available in that state as of 2022.

Atlas Lemon Cannabis Infused Gourmet Granola Trail Bar Review

Atlas Cannabis Infused Gourmet Granola Trail Bar is a 1:1, having equal amounts of THC and CBD. This formula comes in a Lemon, Blueberry and Almond flavor with one bar containing 5mg of THC and 5mg of CBD.These are vegan and their only allergen is nuts.

Atlas has another bar called the Peak bar, with the same THC to CBD ratio, but with a Sativa dominant effect and Salted Caramel flavor. As with most Atlas products they are colorfully packaged (they describe the package artist on their website) and interestingly flavored.

Atlas Cannabis infused gourmet granola trail bar lemon, blueberry and almond with 5mg THC and 5mg CBD

Product

The packaging has to be somewhat child proof, so you do need to cut it open. A strong lemon smell greets you immediately. This is not a dry crunchy granola bar (when fresh, I can’t speak to it if you hold onto it for too long), it is a moist, chewy bar.

The flavor is Lemon turned up to 11. I love strong lemon flavor and I was a little taken aback by how lemony it was. I think it’s needed to avoid having you taste the cannabis oil and I was very happy with it as a lemon-flavor lover. The blueberry and almond provide a little bit of a taste counterpoint, but they are only the background at best. Very tasty and not a strong cannabis taste.

Effects

I found this bar to have relaxing effects, similar to an Indica-dominant hybrid strain. I was alert enough to pay attention but only in a laid back way. Eventually the relaxing effects took over and I could have easily rested my eyes for a while. I am sensitive to Indica strains, so for folks who like the Indica effects this may be perfect and they may not experience the strong relaxing effect I experienced. It was generally a balanced effect of being alert but feeling chill. I had a mild munchie effect from this edible, but nothing ravenous.

Overall a great tasting LEMON granola bar that is easily portable, has a nice chill experience and can be cut in half for a smaller dose experience.

Kushy Punch Sativa & Indica Cannabis Gummies Review

Kushy Punch Cannabis Infused Gummies come in Sativa and Indica formulas. I greatly prefer THC edibles that indicate if they are Sativa or Indica, as I never know what effect I can expect with many generic “hybrid” edibles. These gummies provide specific effect with specific formulations, which helps you know what to expect. Kushy Punch also does make a Hybrid formula, a Recover formula (THC +CBD), a CBD formula and a Private Reserve hybrid gummy.

I love that the Kushy Punch website indicates the type of genetics for each of their formulas:

According to a recent Los Angeles Times article, Kushy Punch are one of the most popular edibles brands in the L.A. area and I was glad to find them in Northern California as well. Fortunately they are widely available in California

Ingredients and Packaging

These gummies are gluten free, dairy free, fat free, peanut free and kosher. They are not vegan or really vegetarian either, as the gelatin they contain is made from animal products. They are a tiny 3.3 calories per piece. As with many California edibles, they come in a package of ten doses totaling 100 mg of THC per package. The Sativa and Indica formulas have 0.1mg of CBD per 10mg of THC in each dose. At 3.3 calories per serving, they are a low calorie edible.

Kushy Punch cannabis infused gummies GIF

You have to push in the flaps at the sides of the box to open the inner container, then peel back a foil cover to reveal the 10 gummies. The gummies are in one large piece with sections you have to pull apart. Be careful separating them, as it’s easy to mistakenly rip off more than a single serving size piece.

I found it difficult to figure out what the flavor was. I had to check the box to see that the Sativa is a Strawberry flavor and Indica is Plum flavor. The ingredients are tapioca syrup, cane sugar, water, gelatin, citric acid, natural flavor extract, cannabis oil and coloring. A typical, if not mouth-watering ingredient list common to many gummies. The flavor was pretty generic and I could taste the cannabis oil, though mildly. They tasted fine, if really unremarkable. I did have a cannabis oil aftertaste with the Indica formula.

Effects

The front of the box has a graphic that says there is 60 minute activation. With individual metabolisms varying so greatly, I’m not sure how they can back up this claim as being scientifically proven. Even as an individual I have had the same edible hit me significantly sooner or later than usual depending on what else is my system.

The effects are primarily as you would expect, with the Indica formula to be a more body-focused effect with relaxation, anti-anxiety, heightened senses and a light, calm type of euphoria. Sativa is more focused on the head, with creativity, energy and a similar effect of heightened senses.

These THC gummies produce the effects you would expect from Indica or Sativa strains of cannabis. The strength is good, producing a noticeable effect similar to other type-specific edibles. The effects last the usual 4-5 hours for me.

Not the best tasting gummies I’ve had, but they have no offensive taste either. For a low calorie, reliable edible with effects on point to what you would expect, Kushy Punch gummies are a good bet for elevating.
