Dixie Tropic Twist Pineapple Indica Cannabis Gummies Review

I love my regular budtenders. They are knowledgeable about everything Cannabis and especially edibles. They always point me in the direction of some amazing products. There was a NEW budtender at my local, mountain dispensary. I asked her to show me her suggestions for strain specific items and I bought a few of her picks plus some of my old favorites this week.

The first edible I tried that she pointed out was Dixie Tropic Twist Indica Pineapple Gummies. The edibles market is saturated with gummies, however, I  have never seen Pineapple Gummies that were specifically Indica or Sativa. So, I was totally excited to try a less common flavor in the cannabis type that I enjoy most.

The Tropic Twist gummies are shaped like balls cut in half. They are a faint yellow color and and heavily coated with sugar. The taste was delicious with no detectable medicinal taste. I loved this gummy’s firm, chewy texture.

Dixie Tropic Twist gummies come in a container of ten 10mg pieces. I took my normal dose of 40mg.

After an hour, I felt a small, light high. Surprisingly, I was very active after taking this Indica strain edible. However, I kept on waiting for the high to get stronger. But it never did.

So the following day, I regrouped and took a larger, 50mg dose to see if I just needed a boost to my THC intake. Maybe this edible is less strong than other cannabis gummies on the market? After an hour of waiting for stronger effects I was left disappointed. Again, there was just a slight tingle of a buzz. A whisper of a high. So, I waited some more. Literally saying to myself, “Am I high?” “Is this it?” After 90 minutes, the buzz is still very, very light. “Ok, it’s the product, this is not working for me”.

After trying a second time eating a stronger dose, I’m left searching for a high to write about. All I feel is a light tingling feeling in my head and my wallet.

If you’re looking to get stoned, Dixie Tropic Twist Gummies are not for you. If you are new to edibles and want to experience a very light buzz, these pineapple gummies are perfect.

Dixie Tropic Twist Other Gummies

Now I’ve learned that when I am helped by an unfamiliar budtender, I will ask three questions:

1) Is it strain specific?

2) Is it strong?

3) Have you personally tried it?

That seems to cover all areas. Good luck and if you find an amazing edible, Alton and I would love to hear about!

Dixie Synergy CBD:THC Balm Review

by Alton

Dixie’s Synergy Relief Balm is infused with 50mg each of THC and CBD in the 1.7 ounce package. Its focus is on easing deep muscle aches, joint pain, and inflammation. Dixie says is is ideal for joint mobility, muscle relaxation, easing acute muscle and nerve pain.

Since it is a balm and not divided into doses, it can be difficult to get the does right. For example, if my usual dose is 10mg and the package contains 50mg, does that mean I need to use one fifth of the product? It has the consistency of a balm and is in a container you cannot see through, so trying to get the dose right could be a challenge. As with all edibles, tinctures, patches, creams and balms, it is best to start with a small amount. Try a little on your skin just to see if you notice any effect and to make sure you don’t have an adverse reaction, since some folks have sensitive skin. Like all topicals, since it is absorbed through the skin and not into the bloodstream, it doesn’t produce the psychoactive effects typically associated with THC.

Dixie Balm Synergy ReliefThis product is vegetarian friendly and it contains beeswax, so it may not be suitable for vegans that don’t consume honey or other animal products. It is based in infused olive oil, with other oils such as cocoa butter and castor seed oil. Along with the THC and CBD oil are various essential oils including rosemary, lavender, cedarwood and pine. The smell is nice and mild, with the fragrances of the lavender, and other oils without any of the camphor or other strong smells in other topicals and transdermals.

While the oils make for good moisturizing, they leave the skin greasy initially. The greasy film gets absorbed eventually but it does linger for quite a while. Don’t put on any delicate fabric like silk on over this balm unless you want grease stains on your clothes. Expect to leave greasy handprints around too or be sure to wash your hands after you use the balm.

I tried the balm on a variety of muscle and nerve pain points. I found it to be effective when used on specific types of pain, such as nerve pain in my feet and muscle pain in my leg. I found it less effective treating joint pain or anything deeper than surface muscle and nerve pain. It’s hard for a topical to penetrate deep into joints from the skin and I didn’t find it effective for that type of pain. While I wasn’t able to dispense the product in any type of consistent dose, I found that using a generous amount was needed to get the desired effects. Just using a little produced no effects for me.

The product can get hard in cold weather, but I found it quite pliable at normal room temperature. I found that 2 or 3 pea-sized portions dug out by my finger was the amount I needed to cover the back of my hand or the top of my foot.

The Synergy Relief balm is a good choice to try if you are looking for a topical rich in natural oils that can address muscle or nerve pain. While it does not work on all types of pain and does come with the greasiness, I found it effective for treating minor aches and pains.

Dixie Cannabis Birthday Cake Bar Review

By Alton & Ruth

If you love the taste of white chocolate and frosting straight from the can, you will love the taste of this Birthday Cake bar. While there is a bit of vanilla cake flavor, the frosting and white chocolate flavor dominate. The flavors are so strong it makes the THC flavor hardly noticeable. While the sprinkles don’t add any flavor, they add a nice crunch along with the pretty rainbow colors.

This edible is delicious,  loaded with sugar and dairy products. The perfect treat when you want to indulge your sweet tooth and enjoy the effects of the THC. The sprinkles do come with FD & C artificial colors, which some folks need to avoid, so be aware of that if you have a sensitivity to those ingredients.

Dixie Birthday Cake bar

This edible comes in an unusual amount for dosing. Most edibles come with 10mg of THC per serving or a way to easily divide it up into 10mg pieces. The standard Birthday Cake bar contains 100mg of THC but comes in portions of 8mg. So if 10 mg is your preferred dose, you may need to cut one piece into four sections of 2mg each so that you can add that to their serving size to get your desired dose. Even the Dixie Brand gummies come in 10mg servings, so we are not sure why the chocolate bars have an odd dose size.

This bar comes in a 200mg version of 16mg per serving as well. Dixie also sells chocolate bars that contain 500mg of THC or 42mg per serving, which sounds crazy for most users but useful for folks who have a high tolerance due to body chemistry, other medications they take or having developed a tolerance.

Dixie explains on their website that “When you consume a Dixie edible, the THC is processed in your liver—transforming from a Δ-9 is to a more potent 11-hydroxy”. To be clear, this occurs when you consume any edible, not just a Dixie edible.

Effects

As regular readers know, we prefer edibles that clearly indicate if they are made with cannabis that is Sativa, Indica or a hybrid of the two. Unfortunately none of the Dixie chocolates indicate this, which makes it harder to know what the effects will be.

Even at the lower 8mg dose, we noticed the effects beginning within half an hour when eaten on an empty stomach. Initial effects included a slight heady buzz and a feeling of being relaxed. We do not notice much of the focus, energy or creativity we would expect from a Sativa or Sativa-dominant hybrid strain, so we can only guess that this is made with a mixture of hybrid strains, perhaps dominated by Indica.

After the first two hours we were only having relaxed effects not energy or focus. This could be due to a serving only having 8mg. we then took another half a serving, which brought us up to 12mg. Initially it seemed fine but after a while it was on the verge of being too strong. It is nice that these are strong, but when you are thrown off by nonstandard dosing you can make an error and add too much. This was a focused high but not very energetic. Spacey and dreamy at times, generally functional and not a generator of strong munchies.

We found these to be quite strong, so be cautious with dosing as even a little too much can create too strong of an effect. Wait the full 2 hours after ingesting any more to gauge the full effects.

As of 2018, all of Dixie Brand chocolates are available in Colorado and Nevada, with most products also now available in California.
