Big Pete’s Cannabis-Infused Mini Cookies Review

Big Pete’s Cannabis-infused mini cookies are billed as “Cookies That Treat You Right”. They come in CBD, Indica & Sativa types. For some reason the Indica comes with ten (10) cookies, each with 10mg of THC and the Sativa comes with six (6)  cookies, each with 10mg of THC.

Taste

For this review, I tried the Peanut Butter flavor of the Sativa and the Cinnamon & Sugar flavor of the Indica.

Big Petes Sativa Cannabis-Infused Mini Cookies

The Peanut Butter smells and tastes like a typical peanut butter cookie – chewy yet dry – that is packed with cannabis. Same goes for the Indica Cinnamon Sugar mini cookie, a great cookie taste with the cannabis butter taste alongside it. While you can get away with eating these cookies without liquid, some coffee, almond milk, or tea to go with them is a welcome addition.

Taking a whiff from the bag smells like someone put peanut butter cookies into a quarter ounce bag of primo weed. Or that you have a piece of cinnamon toast in your stash, so it can both give you and cure your munchies.

You know these are well infused when the cannabis smell is this pronounced. I think they smell great. I found the thc taste from the cannabis butter was pronounced as well. They are not trying to cover up the taste but let it blend with the flavors of the cookies.

I think Big Pete’s achieves a very good balance between the cannabis and the other flavors, as I don’t mind the subtle, slightly grassy taste of cannabis butter.

Ingredients & Packaging

They do contain butter and eggs so they are not vegan and the nuts are an issue for folks with allergies. I like that most of the ingredients are ones that I use in cooking myself, not a lot of extra chemicals or preservatives. Big Pete’s says they use a slow-cook method to make their cannabutter which gives a full spectrum effect.

Packaging is mercifully easy to open, with a tear strip that exposes a two-hand resealable closure similar to many child-safe pouches. There are helpful graphics on the package to help users get the bag open.

Effects

The effects seem to run true to the type, so I couldn’t be happier. Trying a Sativa cookie after breakfast gave me the focus, uplift and energy to run around and get a lot accomplished by noon. This is just what I want and expect from a Sativa cannabis edible. During my errands there may have been an extra stop to buy a few unnecessary but very pretty things, but those happen even when being elevated isn’t involved.

I had some caffeine at lunch and didn’t eat a lot – although I did have the munchies – so the effects continued even after lunch, a total of about 5 hours worth of effects, although they did start to fade after about 4 hours.

BigPetesGingerIndicaTreats

With the Indica, I tried them in the evening since I am pretty sensitive to Indica effects . Within an hour I found them nicely relaxing but not to the point of couch-lock. I flirted with groggy but was able to maintain a relaxed alertness. After 2 hours, my eyelids did start to feel heavier. Being active became less and less attractive. I could see taking these on a winter weekend afternoon for binge watching TV curled up on the couch. I eventually headed off to dreamland nicely chilled out.

I think Big Pete’s makes some great cannabis edibles. I appreciate that they are Sativa/Indica type specific. I would love it if they would share which strain or strains they use. This is a very good tasting cannabis mini cookie that provides consistent, predictable results. Definitely worth the calories and a wonderful way to elevate.

The first time I tested Big Pete’s Cannabis Infused Cinnamon and Sugar Mini Cookies, the complete body high was so amazing I didn’t feel like writing any review notes. It was a strong, intense buzz that very few edibles can compete with. I loved it. Happily, I tried these cookies again with the serious intention to write a glowing product review.

Big Petes Indica Cinnamon & Sugar Cannabis Infused Mini Cookies

Big Pete’s Cinnamon and Sugar Mini Cookies are Indica strain cannabis infused edibles. Each cookie has 10mg of THC. The cookie itself is approximately a 2 inch circle.I took my regular dose of 40mg or four 10mg cookies. But I warn you, these Indica cookies will get you VERY high. So the first time you try Big Pete’s Cinnamon and Sugar Cookies, I encourage you to take a smaller dose than usual. If you are a beginner, be conservative and try half a cookie.

The Cinnamon and Sugar Mini Cookies have the perfect combination of spices. Big Pete’s got the texture right, crunchy in the outside and slightly chewy on the inside. (I hate dry, crumbly cannabis edibles.) There was a faint medicinal taste, but it doesn’t take away from the traditional flavors of the cookies.

After an hour and fifteen minutes, the buzz started ramping up and got very strong. I became very relaxed and settled down to feel the complete body high.  I was keening aware of my heartbeat in my ears. At some points, it was difficult to get my eyes to focus. I spent 95% of the time chilling in my chair, just hanging out, which is normal for an Indica edible. The buzz lasted for 2 hours. Then slowly decreased little by little until I became clearheaded and sober.

I highly recommend Big Pete’s Cinnamon and Sugar Mini Cookies. I love their strength. You should buy them right away! These are definitely my favorite THC cookies on the market.

Kiva Cannabis-Infused Chocolate Bars Review

Kiva is one of the most widely available, well known brands of cannabis edibles with a long history and more than a few awards. Kiva Bars come in eight different flavors, either dark chocolate or milk chocolate. The dark chocolate flavors are vegetarian and vegan friendly as they contain no dairy or other animal products. They may contain traces of milk or nuts from manufacturing, but all are gluten-free. Most of the flavors have only THC in them, two flavors have both THC and CBD.

As regular readers know, I greatly prefer edibles that are made either from similar types of cannabis (Indica, Sativa or Hybrid) and my preference is for edibles that are strain-specific (Blue Dream, Sour Diesel, Gorilla Glue, etc.) and labeled as such. Many edible makers like Kiva, use a mixture of types of cannabis, so while they can be considered “Hybrid”, there is no way to know what strains were used, so the effects are more of a muddle.

Dosing

As always, if it is your first time trying this brand start with a small dose, wait two hours and then judge the effects to determine if you want to increase your dosage.

Kiva Dark Chocolate Blackberry Cannabis Infused BarsThe bar I tried has 100mg total in the bar and it is scored to make it easy to break off 5mg pieces I am an experienced user of cannabis edibles and I know my usual dose is 10mg of THC, so I began by having a 5mg piece and waited to judge the effects. Within an hour I felt a little bit of an effect. After two hours the effects were mild, so I felt comfortable taking another 5mg dose to bring me up to my usual preferred strength.

Taste

For this review I tried the Blackberry Dark Chocolate flavor. This flavor won the 2013 Best Edible at the San Francisco & Los Angeles High Times Cannabis Cups.

I like that Kiva uses natural flavors and as soon as you open the package you get a distinctive blackberry and chocolate smell. The flavor is a good strong dark chocolate flavor with a nice natural blackberry flavor. The combination does a good job of covering up the THC taste, which is hardly noticeable in the background. I can usually taste THC and there is a hint of it in the aftertaste, but generally it is well masked by the flavors.

They have a smooth, chocolatey taste that is not too sweet and melts well. Keep these bars out of your pocket, a hot car or other warm place unless you want a melted mess. Not as gourmet as some edibles like Coda, but definitely a step up from the taste of a Hershey bar.

Effects

My friend June and her partner use a small dose to help with sleep support, so I thought I would try this flavor to see if it had a similar effect.

KIVA Dark Chocolate Blackberry Cannabis Infused BarThe initial effects were mild and more on the Indica side, feeling relaxed and a little tired. Since Kiva uses both Sativa and Indica, for me the effects are a bit schizophrenic. I feel relaxed, then tired, then a bit of uplift, then unmotivated, then creative, then tired again. For me personally this is not the kind of effect I enjoy the most.  I don’t like feeling creative but too relaxed to do anything about it. I don’t like it when my head wants to be productive and my body wants to take a nap.

The first time I tried it was during the day and even at half a does I could feel the Indica effects more than I wanted, so I didn’t even take the other half of a dose for fear of sleeping the day away. For folks who enjoy Indica type effects in the daytime, as it helps them focus or calm anxiety, these effects could be perfect, they just are not what I enjoy.

This Kiva edible is much better as an evening treat or to help with sleep support for someone like me. I tried them in the early evening and I did feel relaxed yet able to stay awake. When I did go to bed I had no problem falling asleep. I would limit my use of these for the late afternoon or evening and everyone experiences different impacts with cannabis edibles.

Kiva Blackberry Dark Chocolate Cannabis Infused Bars have a great taste with natural ingredients and the effects are decently strong. My experience is that they are best for folks who desire Indica-type effects and not good if you are looking for an energetic, uplifted, happy effect. If you are looking for help with anxiety, relaxing or sleep support, this could be a great cannabis edible choice for you.

EdiPure Sour Berry Bombs Cannabis Gummies Review

Recently, I went to my local dispensary and my budtender was actually the retail shop manager. We talked about edibles for a while. I mentioned that cannabis gummies have not always gotten me buzzed. She suggested EdiPure Classic Sour Berry Bombs. I bought them and a handful of other yummy edibles right away. (Who am I kidding, I bought as many as I could legally carry out of the dispensary!!).

EdiPure Sour Berry BombsEdiPure Classic Sour Berry Bombs come in a bottle of ten 10mg doses. Whenever my dispensary says something is strong- I believe them. I usually need 50mg to feel effects, but to be on the careful side, I only took a 40mg dose.

These Sour Berry Bombs taste delicious. Not too sour. The flavor was a general, mixed berry taste with a fine sugar coating. EdiPure has the texture perfectly in this product. They are really chewy gummies!

After an hour and a half I felt a calm buzz, my anxieties were lowered. I was really relaxed. I also felt noticeably less energetic. Curiously, my auditory senses were heightened; I could hear a pin drop.

My dear friend Alton, has taught me a lot about asking my budtender’s for strain specific edibles. Indica and Sativa. This product is a Hybrid so it is not as easy to know what you’re getting. EdiPure Classic Sour Berry Bombs have calming effects, less energetic, and super auditory abilities.

At some points while using EdiPure Classic Sour Berry Bombs I felt shaky. It never lasted long, but there was some internal jitters that wasn’t expected or enjoyable. I’m glad I took a lower dose. The high lasted about an hour and forty five minutes. There were no munchies.

EdiPure Sour Berry BombsI liked the taste and the calming effects of EdiPure Classic Sour Berry Bombs so much, I followed the review up the following day with a second sampling. That time the high was much more uplifting and euphoric. I had no shakiness, making the high much more enjoyable.

Overall, these are great tasting gummies that provide a strong high. This Hybrid of strains appears to favor Indica. So prepare accordingly, this is a low energy buzz.

As far as cannabis gummies go, EdiPure Classic Sour Berry Bombs are a success. I would buy them again. I recommend you give them a try. Just be patient, the Sour Berry Bombs take a little longer for the buzz to set in. Enjoy!!!

Treometry Golden Mylk Chocolate THC CBD Bar Review

Treometry’s Golden Mylk is a Tumeric Chai Cannabis White Chocolate Bar with Ashwaghanda Extract. While I was not familiar with Ashwaghanda before, this is now one of my favorite edibles to help go to sleep and stay asleep.

Golden Mylk front

Flavor

With several competing spices, this edible struggles to find a balance among all of the flavors. The equally strong spice tastes from the tumeric, chai spices, pepper, ginger, etc. can leave the tongue a bit confused. The white chocolate flavor is very mild providing a smooth, chocolaty flavor overall. There is a slight aftertaste which is likely from the cannabis oil or the Ashwaghanda extract being in alcohol. This is a vegan chocolate, so it is missing the traditional milky, creamy chai flavor, as nothing in it replaces that taste or texture. The taste is very pleasant overall, creating a smooth spicy experience. It’s unusual to find a good tasting chocolate treat that is dairy-free, paleo friendly and gluten-free.

Dosage & Strain

The packaged portion is labeled as containing 10mg of THC and 10mg of CBD. It is scored into four squares that are easily broken into pieces of 2.5 mg for portion control – always a plus with an edible! It does not indicate if the THC is sativa, indica or some hybrid, which is a drawback. Since it does a great job promoting relaxation and sleep, it’s a good bet that it is an Indica or Indica-dominant hybrid strain.

Golden Mylk Unboxed

Ashwaghanda – what is that?

According to Examine.com and its references to 300+ scientific papers:

“Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) is an herb used in Ayurveda medicine. Ashwagandha means ‘Smell of Horse,’ which refers to the fresh root’s distinct horsey smell, and the traditional belief that ingesting the herb will confer the strength and virility of a horse.

Ashwagandha is an adaptogen. It is supplemented primarily for its ability to prevent anxiety. Ashwagandha’s anti-anxiety effect is even synergistic with alcohol. It also shows promise for relieving insomnia and stress-induced depression.”

Despite this description, I have never tasted or smelled anything even remotely like a “horsey” smell, because this edibles uses an extract not the fresh root. I have experienced and enjoyed the anti-anxiety, relaxing effect it provides.

Golden Mylk back

Effects & Dosing

Given its anti-anxiety and insomnia relief properties, this edible is often suggested for use in helping with getting and staying asleep. Over repeated uses, I have found that it provides these effects consistently.

In my experiments I did as I always do with a new cannabis edible, I started with a small dose. I started with just one of the four pieces to gauge the effect. While it is considered a mild does at only 2.5mg THC & CBD, it did help with stress relief and relaxing. I have tried two pieces, which is half of the bar and contains 5mg THC & CBD. I experienced more pronounced anxiety relief and relaxation effects within the first forty minutes. By the end of the first hour I was nicely relaxed and ready for bed.

I have tried it several times and the effects are consistent using the 5mg dose. Either I sleep through the night or if I get up I am able to get back to sleep. I sometimes experienced a slight grogginess in the mornings, but it quickly dissipates. I went back to the 2.5mg dose for regular use, since the Ashwagandha seems to add enough extra kick to do the trick for me.

If you are just trying this for the first time, it’s likely best to only take one-fourth of the bar, wait at least one hour and preferably two hours before taking another quarter portion. As always, the effects will differ depending on other medications, your metabolism, how much you eat around the time you take it, etc.

Golden Mylk is on the short list of the products I like the best to help with relaxing, getting a good nights sleep and avoiding insomnia.

Korova Cannabis Infused Ginger Chew Mini Cookies Review

Korova makes ten flavors of mini cookies, including the Ginger Chew flavor I tried. I prefer edibles that either indicate the type of cannabis used (Indica, Sativa or Hybrid) or that indicate the strain name (Sour Diesel, OG Kush, Romulan, etc.). Unfortunately Korova does not indicate either of these on their packaging or their website. This means you take a gamble on the effects you might experience. Most of the cookies simply say “Made with Hybrid Cannabis”. A good reason to start low and go slow, as with all THC edibles.

Korova Ginger Chew Mini Cookies

Most of the cookie flavors come in 100mg packages with 10mg of THC per cookie. Korova  has two a Vanilla Bean flavored mini cookies with CBD. There is a 1:1 THC to CBD ratio, with each cookie having 10mg THC & CBD and a high-CBD mini cookie that has 15mg of CBD per cookie.

Packaging in easy to read and fairly easy to open, with a child proof mechanism similar to how many of the dispensary exit bags work, using a thumb to grab one side while pulling open the other side. The closure is sturdy and easy to re-close. The cookies are loose inside, not individually packaged.

Korova Ginger Chew Mini Cookies package backKorova is right up front about its ingredients – literally. Right on the front they list all 12 ingredients. All of the ingredients are ones you have heard of, with no hard-to-pronounce chemicals, artificial colors or flavors. I also like how the package back comes with the reminder that with edibles you can always eat more but you can never eat less.

Taste

The cookies look, smell and taste great, like a good quality crunchy cookie. For the Ginger Chews, there is a tiny bit of chew but it is mostly a crumbly butter cookie. They have a very nice ginger cookie taste with ginger, brown sugar and butter the predominant flavors. I hardly was able to taste the cannabis, which for folks who don’t like that taste is a big positive. Even the aftertaste was butter cookie, not THC.

I can see why people are fans of Korova, since they produce a good tasting product and keep the ingredients simple.

Effects

Within 30 minutes I started to feel the effects of a mild buzz. It remained on the mild side. It was hard for me to tell from the effects if this was an Indica or Sativa. I felt a little relaxed but not a lot. I did not feel the uplift, energy or focus I normally get from a Sativa edible. These seem to be a balanced mild hybrid with a slight cerebral high and a mild relaxing body high. I tried these several times in the afternoon and they did not give me a strong head high or any significant body effect, just a slight stoned feeling.

If you are sensitive to THC, if you are new to edibles or just prefer a mild effect, these could be a good product for you in terms of effects. I prefer my effects to be more noticeable, to give me a decent strength either in the direction of energy and creativity or in the direction of relaxation or pain relief. I did not find any strong effects with these at my usual dose. These could be perfect for folks who get strong effects from a dose smaller than 10mg or who are looking for a mild buzz.

Great tasting edible using real ingredients with a mild hybrid effect.

Atlas Ember, Stratus & Nimbus Cannabis Edibles Review

Atlas edibles are a hybrid of a granola bar, a fruit/oat bar and a cookie. They come in Sativa, Indica and two different Hybrid formulations. Each bag contains 80mg of THC. There are four pieces in each bag, each piece contains 20mg of THC. They are colorfully packaged, interestingly flavored and cleverly named.

Products

The two hybrid products are Stratus and Nimbus. Stratus promotes mindfulness & playfulness. It is flavored with lemon caramel, wild blueberries, poppy seeds and a hint of ginger. Nimbus is the other Hybrid flavor, having the same effects as Status but flavored with dark chocolate, hazelnuts, pecans and currants.

The Indica edible, which promotes relaxation, is flavored with Mexican chocolate, warm spices and pepitas (pumpkin seeds) and is called Origin. Click here for our reviews of Origin.

Atlas Sativa Ember clusters
Ember edible

The Sativa edible is called Ember and it promotes functionality and creativity. It’s flavored with caramel, cayenne, toasted cashews and California apricots. If you are sensitive to spicy, don’t be put off because I love spicy and I hardly noticed any heat when I tried it, so it’s a mellow heat offset by the nuts and apricots. It is vegetarian and almost vegan (if your vegan eats honey) with the cannabis infused in coconut oil.

Ember has a pleasant oat bar/moist cookie taste with some crunch from the cashews and a nice fruity finish with the apricots. THC flavor was present but mild, as was the heat from the cayenne, which I hardly could notice. I should note that I like spicy food and have a tolerance for it, so you might notice the cayenne more than I did. Atlas describes it as promoting positivity, functionality and creativity.

The Nimbus Hybrid product suggests it will promote balance, mindfulness and playfulness. It has a pleasant dark chocolate smell with some of the THC coming through. The taste is the same oat-y, sweet nut and fruit flavor as the other Atlas products. The pecan and hazelnut flavors come in behind the chocolate, oat & honey taste. There is a definite cannabis taste but it is mild and quite well balanced with the other flavors, so the taste is neither medicinal nor absent.

Dosing

It was confusing for me that they called the pieces inside “clusters” a cluster can be a single square or the four squares stuck together could also be a cluster. From just reading the dosing information on the outside I could not tell what I would find inside. Once I opened the package I found four square pieces stuck together with a silicone bag stuck to the bottom of one of the squares.

I had to re-read the instructions and was still confused because the graphic shows one square cut in half, so did that mean half of the four squares stuck together should be cut in half to make what they called a “cluster”? I decided that since there were 80mg in the package, that must mean there were four pieces, each with 20mg, so I pulled apart the four squares.

Atlas Sativa Ember pkg clusters
Atlas Edibles’ Sativa Ember edible fresh from the package

For my usual test dose of 10mg I cut one of the squares in half. Cutting one of the squares in half required a sharp knife since they are dense and there are nuts inside. It cut cleanly in half. My usual 10 mg dose was just right for this product as I found it strong and potent.

Effects

Ember – I took a 10 mg dose of the Sativa edible on a half-empty stomach in the late morning with coffee and I could feel it within 45 minutes. Within an hour I had the full effect of energy and focus. I had so much energy I felt like I could scrub the driveway with a toothbrush if I had to! Luckily I only had usual weekend chores and some cooking to do, so it was perfect.

I had a strong munchie effect from this edible. Since it is strong it likely impacts the blood sugar in a strong way too, so be sure to have your favorite liquids and snacks around.

Nimbus – I took a 10mg dose with my breakfast coffee, pairing it with a piece of bacon to provide the fat that edibles need. I started to feel the effects in less than an hour. Like the Ember product, this one is also potent and delivers a pleasantly noticeable effect. I experienced a clear-headed high, with some energy from the sativa effects and a solid relaxing effect on the body. This wasn’t a foggy-headed or lethargic high that comes with some hybrids that are indica-dominant.
